What to expect from a family lifestyle photography session

A Lifestyle Approach to Family photography is becoming increasingly popular, and for good reason! It’s more about taking time out of the daily hustle and being present with your Family, opposed to classic posing and fixing smiles towards the camera.

It’s within those in-between & impromptu moments where you’re being yourselves. that your unique Family ‘Story’ is truly shown and the BEST portraits are captured! FYI Lifestyle Photographers have the knack of capturing this!

So, if you’re tinkering on the edge of wondering whether to book in your family Session with me. Here’s a little overview of what to expect and the chance to nosey at some really lovely Family Photographs.

Choosing your location

do you have somewhere special in mind or open to suggestions?

I shoot year-round and can provide different location suggestions based on the season. More often than not though I prefer quiet & secluded locations on public footpaths, as it’s less likely to be busy. I find Families are more relaxed when they don’t feel like others are watching them.

I am also open to suggestions if you have somewhere special in mind, which is EXACTLY what Rachel wanted for her Family Session. On this summer evening, we met on a footpath close to their home in Hackleton.

This beautiful location of Barley fields and Wildflowers was full of stories and memories for them. Rachel spent her childhood playing in these fields, said ‘I love you’ to Adie when they were dating and Nora’s first word was ‘tree’ on their walk to the park. It was the perfect place for them to have their family session.

How do we prepare for our session?

Don’t worry! Before the session, I send you a PDF guide with tips on what to wear and what to expect from your Family Lifestyle Session. I’m also happy to help you pick between potential outfits you would wear (you can WhatsApp me some photos!)

Personally, I always start with my own outfit to make sure I feel comfortable and then decide on everyone else! Other than choosing what to wear, it’s always worth prepping everyone that this is going to be a relaxed and FUN session (a little bribery never goes a miss!)

How will we know what to do?

I don’t expect you to instantly relax in front of the camera, or know what to do. That’s my job! I ALWAYS start with asking you to walk around and have some relaxed poses to mind, but ultimately we go with the flow to capture a combination of individual portraits and Family group shots.

I am a dab hand at keeping the kiddies interested and redirecting!

If you’ve indicated that you’re happy for a sneak peek via social media (Online Questionnaire) then I will post one edited image 24-48 hours after your session.

Your final online gallery is ready within 3 weeks from your session date, where you have the option to upgrade your package.
